Since its inception in 1973, Global Industries has grown from a small diving company based in Harvey, Louisiana into a leader in offshore construction in the Gulf of Mexico and around the world. Global has prospered by supplying diving and pipelaying services vital in producing offshore oil and gas.

Guided by a vision of building a full-service offshore construction company, Global has expanded and diversified. Global's expansion has been aggressive when periodic "busts" driven by sharp drops in oil prices produced extraordinary opportunities for those prepared to seize them.

A series of well-timed acquisitions have fueled Global's rapid diversification. The original diving company, Global Divers, added pipelaying personnel and equipment when it acquired Pipelines, Inc. in 1975. Then during the oil bust of the mid-1980s, Global began a series of major acquisitions that have catapulted the company up the ranks of the major offshore companies. Assets acquired from Sea-Con Services, Santa Fe Offshore Construction Company, Teledyne Movible Offshore, Divcon International, ROV Technologies, The Red Adair Company, and selected assets from SubSea International, J. Ray McDermott, Halliburton, and Oceaneering International have helped Global Industries become an offshore construction giant.
