The U.S. Gulf of Mexico is where Global’s business began in 1973, and it continues to be an active area for oil and gas exploration as significant new reserves are found in deepwater fields. Undiscovered oil reserves of 50 billion barrels in the deep waters of the Gulf, combined with the unprecedented rise in the price of oil, have driven investment in deepwater developments significantly.
Deepwater projects are playing an increasing role in both Global’s backlog and its active projects, where the Company is expanding its technology related to the installation of subsea systems, such as SURF work (subsea umbilicals, risers, and flowlines), pipeline end manifolds (PLEMs), flying leads, and deepwater pipelines. Global also has a strong record in deepwater diving, achieving the deepest dive in the Gulf at 1,075 feet.
Global achieved significant growth in 2006 due to the two devastating hurricanes in the prior year. Operations in the Gulf that year were driven by inspection, assessment, and repair of energy infrastructure related to the 113 destroyed platforms, 56 more that were severely damaged, and 457 damaged pipelines. For over a year, Global used every vessel in its Gulf of Mexico fleet as well as several mobilized from other locations to help customers repair facilities and restore production to pre-storm capacity.
Being there when it counts with the right equipment, the right personnel, and the right knowledge is what makes Global the solutions provider of choice in the Gulf of Mexico.
