Global Industries began operating in Mexico in January 1997 as a pipeline installation contractor in the Bay of Campeche after entering into a joint venture with a Mexican construction company. The joint venture partner provided approximately 150 technical, professional, and administrative employees specializing in the construction of offshore pipelines and 600 offshore employees, a shore base and office facilities for 250 employees, warehouse/workshop facility adjacent to the office, and a dock facility with warehousing/work shop capabilities. Global dissolved its joint venture partnership, and in June 1999 formed a wholly owned subsidiary, Global Offshore Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V., while continuing operations with assets acquired from the partner. Global Offshore Mexico is located in Carmen, a support community for the offshore infrastructure in the Bay of Campeche. Carmen offers a heliport to support PEMEX Exploration and Production offshore operations and a weather-protected port to accommodate PEMEX's offshore support fleet of supply and crew boats.
